RealSense™ D455f: Longest Range Depth Camera with IR Pass Vision & IMU
The Intel® RealSense™ Depth Camera D455f is the third product of the D400f family of IR pass filter products. The IR pass filter increases the relative strength of the textured IR projector pattern, improving depth noise quality and performance range. Based on the D450 optical module with the increased baseline of 95 mm the depth Z-accuracy can be improved to less than 2% at 4 m. The D455f includes also an Inertial Measurement (IMU) which allows applications to refine depth awareness in any situation where the camera is moving. The D455f contains a global shutter 87° horizontal field of view RGB, matching the depth field of view (FOV). Placing an IR Pass Filter over the lenses resolves repetitive patterns and false object detection due to light reflections. This makes the D455f an ideal choice for use cases such as fast-moving robotics or drones where reflective lightor transparency can be a problem.
Like with all of Intel® RealSense™ D400 Series of cameras, the D455f is also supported by Intel RealSense SDK 2.0, which makes it easy for existing customers to use it. Intel RealSense SDK 2.0 provides time-stamped IMU data that is matched with high-quality depth data.

Target applications for Intel® RealSense™ D455f
Although the D455f depth camera works both indoors and outdoors, the IR pass filter makes this camera ideal for bright sunlight and improves the depth quality of the stereo camera in this environment. With the enhanced IR depth cameras of the D400f product family, Intel primarily addresses the growing robotic market. In particular fast-moving robotics and drones, when one or more of the following conditions apply to the use case:
- Environments with reflective or transparent surfaces (e.g. in applications such as robotics, retail, restaurant, and medical)
- Visible reflections in scenes with overhead lights (e.g. reflections by shiny floors or tables)
- (Indoor) non-texture scenes (e.g. white walls)
- Scenes with lower depth quality due to repetitive vertical patterns (e.g. poles in airport, vertical blinds, pipes in celling, floor drains or small floor tiles)
Further Intel® RealSense™ Stereo Depth products
In volume enterprise products Intel® RealSense™ Stereo Depth technology may require custom solutions with a more flexible form factor and tighter integration options. There is no dedicated module version for the Intel® RealSense™ D400f product family, instead existing D400 modules can be used. For simple out-of-the-box integration into the customers’ products, a 750 nm near-infrared filter is directly applied over the external surface of the glass cover window.
