Infineon – TRENCHSTOP™ feature IGBT – Protected series for induction heating
The F series protected IGBT is the first device in the new family of TRENCHSTOP™ feature IGBTs, which add new functionality to standard discrete IGBTs.
The innovative F series protected IGBT combines a 20 A 1350 V IGBT in RC-H5 technology with a unique protecting gate driver IC together in a TO-247 6-pin package for induction cooking applications.
F series protected IGBT, features not only the industry’s best IGBT performance considering blocking voltage, static losses and conduction losses in induction cooktop applications and other soft switching application but also integrated protection functions.
Its original concept provides protection against overvoltage, overcurrent, and overtemperature and additional features such as a unique active clamp control, fault condition notification, and a special two level turn-on gate driving current that reduces significantly the typical high startup peak current. These integrated protection functions provide a simple and robust solution for increased overall system reliability.

The single TO-247 6-pin package includes IGBT + driver with protection functionality, with same the dimensions and single screw hole as standard TO-247 3- and 4-pin packages.
This package allows for easier handling during manufacturing, as well as less board space. Combined with a simplified application design requiring fewer components, total cost and design-in effort are reduced.
