ST- FERD Diodes – High performance rectification without the expense and complexity of going synchronous
In the past, efficient power conversion rectification solutions used Schottky diodes. The only way to achieve a breakthrough in efficiency and power density was to use expensive, complex synchronous rectification solutions, with MOSFETs and dedicated controllers. Now ST introduces a new generation of diodes, the Field-Effect Rectifier Diode series (FERD) with a rectification performance in applications close to that of synchronous solutions yet with the lower complexity of traditional rectification techniques. The FER diodes are particularly efficient in adapters, DC/DC converters, telecom power, and lighting applications, as well as in bypass functions for photovoltaic applications.
