Murata has launched the world’s smallest ultra-wideband (UWB) module with dimensions of just 10.5 mm × 8.3 mm × 1.44 mm, which combines low power consumption with high accuracy and reliability to make compact and battery-powered IoT- Devices work as efficiently and cheaply as possible. The connectivity module Type 2AB UWB + Bluetooth® Low Energy (BLE) uses radio frequency (RF) technology with short range, which can be used in a variety of applications where precise detection is essential. This also includes applications that ensure social distancing in the workplace in order to minimize the spread of COVID-19. The mounting area can be reduced by 75% by using the UWB module with the Qorvo-IC DW3110 / 3120 compared to chip-on-board designs. Furthermore, the UWB module with a Nordic nRF52840 offers improved design flexibility and a shorter product development time, for example by eliminating the need to prepare external MCUs for customers. In addition, there is an excellent memory (256 kB RAM and 1MB Flash), a deep sleep mode of 250 nA, a 3-axis sensor for motion detection. In addition, the possibility of a temperature range from -40 ° C to 85 ° C and voltages from 2.5 V to 3.6V. The system-in-package module is ideally suited for production engineers who develop advanced products for the IoT market. There is a total of three antennas on the module – two UWB antennas for the phased-different-of-arrival (PDoA) function and one for BLE.
