STMicroelectronics – Rapid Design of IoT-Applications with NFC Discovery Kit
On Embedded World 2014, STMicroelectronics and Rutronik are going to present an easy to use development platform for the dynamic NFC tags type M24SR which are entering mass production now with all memory sizes and packages. The M24SR Discovery Kit from ST contains all the elements required by engineers to rapidly design applications for the Internet of Things (IoT). Any electric device from fitness clocks through loudspeakers and washing machines up to water meters can be upgraded with NFC connectivity and thus communicate with a huge range of smartphones and tablets.
Extending the NFC portfolio of ST the dynamic NFC tags type M24SR are equipped with a serial I²C interface as well as with a contactless HF interface (NFC Forum tag type 4). The products support the NFC Data Exchange Format (NDEF) and a 128 bit file encryption. The M24SR series is available with EEPROM sizes from 2 kbit up to 64 kbit in three packages (SO8, TSSOP8 and UFDFPN8).
The M24SR Discovery Kit helps to start development of networked consumer products, household utensils and industrial devices. It is designed to illustrate applications like ‚Tap and Pair‘, URL connections, sending of SMS or Email as well as downloading of business cards. The kit contains a dynamic NFC/RFID tag (M24SR64-Y), a STM32F1 MCU, a 13.56 MHz antenna, a 2.4“ QVGA LCD display, a micro USB connector, a JTAG connector and a joystick for navigation through the menu. The premium version additionally contains a Bluetooth module with audio output and a headset to demonstrate Bluetooth pairing between a smartphone and an audio device with the M24SR.
Besides of this Discovery Kit ST provides also antenna reference designs, application notes, an e2e community, the eDesignSuite, exemplary MCU drivers and a NFC Android App. A limited number of M24SR Discovery Kits will be distributed for free to interested customers at the Rutronik booth on Embedded World 2014.
