Renesas Electronics Europe and Port GmbH Announce Software Cooperation for R-IN Series of Industrial Ethernet Controllers

Renesas Electronics Europe, a premier provider of advanced semiconductor solutions, has teamed up with its alliance partner port GmbH to offer comprehensive software support for its multi-protocol industrial Ethernet solutions. port implements PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT and CANopen stacks on the Renesas Industrial Network (R-IN) devices, providing customers with easy access to these technologies and a fast market entry.

With its revolutionary hardware accelerator design, Renesas’ R-IN32M3 multi-protocol industrial Ethernet solutions are 5 times more efficient in Ethernet packet processing, while reducing overall power consumption by 50%. EtherCAT and CC-Link IE real-time protocols are implemented in hardware, offering the most robust implementation while limiting the impact on the overall power dissipation. Software based protocols like EtherNet/IP, PROFINET RT, and Modbus TCP run on the ARM Cortex M3 processor with 1.3MB embedded RAM attached. Due to the high degree of integration, the R-IN devices include Ethernet PHYs, various fieldbus interfaces and multiple peripheral modules.

The significant added value of PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT and CANopen protocol stack solutions is the scalability of the library, which can be fully adapted to fit the user’s needs. The comprehensive design tool support speeds up the design process significantly and helps customers reduce time to market.

port GmbH’s protocol stacks are well proven in the industry and provide a good base for the customer to pass all required certification tests and plugfests. The protocol stacks are backed up by port GmbH’s professional support network, completing the full set of features required for customer success in the market.
