Components in general and Passives in particular are subject to ever progressing miniaturization. Modern electronics such as medical technology, industrial applications, the automotive sector and among others in the entertainment industry with their phones and tablets, allowing less and less board space but require continuous performance improvement.
This article addresses the different opportunities of the miniaturization like space and weight saving as well as cost reduction . Furthermore the undesired effects of miniaturization are also mentioned.
What is about miniaturization?
Miniaturization is not only the simple size reduction. It also describes the improved performance within the same design. Where previously a larger housing was necessary , the same performance is given in the smaller size. That is what we even call miniaturization.
