Littelfuse – Two new products to protect electronic systems from ESD and lightning-induced surge events
SP4044 and SP4045 Series TVS Diodes from Littelfuse Protect Against ESD and Surge, and Help Maintain Higher Signal Integrity
Low loading capacitance makes them ideal for protecting high speed signal pins on HDbaseT, 2.5 and 5 Gigabit Ethernet
SP4044 and SP4045 Series TVS Diode Arrays (SPA® Diodes) from Littelfuse protect sensitive electronics from destructive electrostatic discharges (ESD) and lightning-induced surge events. Low capacitance diodes are integrated with an additional zener diode to protect each I/O pin against ESD and high surge events. These robust devices offer a benchmark-setting surge protection/capacitance ratio; safely absorbing up to 24A of lightning-induced surges while presenting only 1.5pF per I/O-to-Ground connection. This helps to assure minimal signal degradation. The array can also handle a minimum of ±30kV ESD, so electronics manufacturers can realize greater protection and enhance product reliability in the field. The low loading capacitance also makes the SP4044 and SP4045 Series ideal for protecting high speed signal pins. “Straight-through” routing allows these components to sit on top of the lines they protect, eliminating stub parasitic capacitance and inductance and ensuring higher signal integrity.
Features
- Peak pulse power of 500W (SP4044) and 600W (SP4045)
- Promotes high ESD immunity and superior protection: ESD, IEC 61000-4-2, ±30kV contact, ±30kV air discharge; EFT, IEC 61000-4-4, 40A (5/50ns); Lightning, IEC 61000-4-5, 2nd ed., 24A (8/20μs)
- Low capacitance of 1.5pF (typ)
- Very low dynamic resistance: RDYN of 0.22Ω (SP4044) and 0.3Ω (SP4045)
Benefits
- Offer far more headroom from electrical threats as defined by regulatory standards
- Permits manufacturers to achieve ESD protection beyond the maximum level stated in the IEC Standard and protects against a multitude of other threats to ensure product reliability in the field
- Low capacitance helps to maintain signal integrity and minimize data loss while offering a more robust device against electrical threats
- Produces low clamping voltages, allowing these devices to protect modern/small geometry chipsets against industry-defined ESD transients
