Components for CAN Physical Layer
1. Common Mode Chokes
Common mode chokes like L1 in the image above supress wire-bound common mode interferences, i. e. transients that occur with the same polarity on two electrical connections at the same time. This list gives an overview of automotive common mode chokes for differential CAN signal lines.

2. Transient Voltage Suppressors for CAN Data Lines
The inputs of CAN transceivers have to be protected against voltage spikes with reference to ground. This is usually done by ESD diodes like D1 and D2 in the image above. Table 2 lists a small selection of automotive dual (two bidirectional) protection diodes in one package.
Supplier | Type | Features |
Vishay | VCANxxx | dual, bidirectional, SOT323 or SOT23 |
DIODES | DSD1CAN2SOQ | dual, bidirectional, 200W, SOT23 |
Littelfuse | SM24CANA-02HTG | dual, bidirectional, 200W, SOT23-3 |

3. CAN Transceivers
CAN Transceivers are the line drivers of the CAN bus. They come in many different varieties regarding package, power supply, power saving features, wake-up mechanism and so on. For this reason Table 3 only shows complete product series with their main features. For details please refer to the respective datasheet.
Supplier | Type | Features |
Infineon | TLE925x | CAN-FD up to 5 Mbit/s |
Infineon | TLE725x | CAN-FD up to 2 Mbit/s |
Infineon | TLE625x | CAN up to 1 Mbit/s |
BOSCH | CF1xx | CAN up to 1Mbit/s |
