Microchip – The 3V 16/32 and 64-Mbit Serial Quad I/O™ Interface SuperFlash® Memory Family is now available
Serial Quad I/O™ (SQI™) Flash memory uses 4-bit multiplexed I/O serial protocol, boosts performance while maintaining the compact form factor of standard SPI Flash. SQI™ devices can be used in Quad, Dual or SPI mode so it is backward compatible with SPI devices.
SQI™ Flash-Specific Features
- 4-bit multiplexed I/O serial protocol
- > 300 Mbps sustained read
- Density: 4 Mb to 64 Mb
- Software parameter and individual block locking
- Security ID
- Page mode programming
- Serial Flash Discoverable Parameters (SFDP)
Manufactured on Microchip’s proprietary SuperFlash™ technology providing superior performance
- Low power consumption during writes
- Higher data retention – 100 years
- Higher Reliability – 100,000 write cycles without performance degradation
- Fast, fixed program and erase times
- ~ 40 ms for SuperFlash technology vs. more than a minute for conventional 64 Mb
- Results in improved manufacturing efficiency and lower costs
The SST26VF016/032/064 family is manufactured using Microchip’s high-performance CMOS SuperFlash™ technology, which provides the industry’s fastest erase times and superior reliability. Sector and block erase commands are completed in just 18 ms, and a full chip erase operation is completed in 35 ms making them about 400 times faster than competing devices. Fast erase times can provide a significant cost savings to customers, by minimizing the time required for testing and firmware updates, and therefore increasing their manufacturing throughput. The SQI™ interface is a low pin count, high-speed 104 MHz quad-bit address and data multiplex I/O serial interface that allows for high data throughput in a small package. SQI™ provides faster data throughput than comparable x16 parallel Flash devices, without the associated high cost and high pin count of parallel Flash. The new SQI devices are fully command-set backward compatible with the Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) protocol.
