Kontron introduces the new K3836-Q/R mITX Motherboard – a high-performance and future-proof solution for demanding applications.

Kontron K3836-Q/R mITX Industrial Series

The K3836-Q/R mITX motherboard is the successor to the D3633-S. It is equipped with the latest 12^th, 13^th and 14^th generation Intel® Core™ processors and a comprehensive set of modern interfaces. Combined with the proven functionality of its popular forerunner, the K3836-Q/R mITX offers a future-proof solution for a wide range of applications industry, medicine and infotainment.

The new motherboard in the compact mini-ITX form factor is developed and manufactured in Germany. Two different chipset versions are offered:

• K3836-R: High-performance Intel® R680E chipset with ECC support and real-time capability for mission-critical applications
• K3836-Q: Powerful Q670E chipset onboard

The K3836-Q/R mITX offers unparalleled connectivity, featuring 2x Intel® LAN (1 GbE and 2.5 GbE) with Teaming, TSN and iAMT support. Further versatile connectivity options include a PCIe x16 Gen5 expansion slot, 13 USB ports (including USB Type-C), and M.2 Key-M and Key-E slots. Up to 4 Display Port interfaces support graphics with up to 8K resolutions. Other features include eDP and LVDS support, four COM (RS242) and SATA ports, and SATA/NVME RAID support. Support for DDR5-4800/5600 SODIMMs up to 96 GB and a x16 slot with bifurcation support (2x PCIe x8 Gen5) allow for flexible use. The K3836-Q/R mITX is available with two power options: a standard ATX multirail PSU or a single 12V power supply unit (‘DC In’).

With a minimum seven-year lifespan and preparation for the next generation of Intel® processors, the K3836-Q/R mITX is a future-proof solution. It is particularly reliable thanks to 24/7 continuous operation at temperatures up to 60° C. Therefore, it can be used for various applications such as industrial automation, robotics, medical diagnostics, digital signage, infotainment and POS/POI systems.

The K3836-Q/R mITX motherboard will be available in series production from the end of 2024.

Target applications

The K3836-Q/R mITX is designed and approved for 24/7 continuous operation and also proven for medical devices. It provides adjustable CPU performance through Intel® Core™, Pentium® and Celeron® processor series for entry and high class IPCs. Furthermore, the K3836-Q/R mITX is suitable for enhanced industrial climate conditions up to 60 °C. Due to these characteristics (and others) the K3836-Q/R mITX is a fitting solution for the following target markets:
